Your Competitive Advantage in Tablet Coating Manufacturing
The creation of the Accela-Cota coating system is a testament to the difference Thomas Engineering has made in the pharmaceutical industry. First introduced in 1969, this system continues to set the standard for modern tablet coating. The fully-perforated coating drum transformed the manufacturing process for years to come. We changed the industry with this system, and that trend continues today. The Accela-Cota still offers the best combination of unrestricted air flow, thermodynamic efficiency, and flexibility in the coating process.
A long time ago, we realized we needed to do more than just create quality products. We made it our mission to be a competitive advantage for our customers by providing solutions and systems that met their unique needs. It is this line of thinking that led us to develop the many innovations we’ve completed over the past 60 years in business. The Accela-Cota system was a game changer when it first hit the market, but we saw the potential to take it further. You can always count on Thomas Engineering to keep pushing for greater innovation.
Continuing Accela-Cota Improvements Over the Years
The Accela-Cota fully-perforated drum design was an industry leader for many years, but we saw room for improvement. We looked at the obstacles and hurdles our customers were facing in their processes. From there, we made alterations to advance the design, making it even more beneficial for your operations. We focused our improvements in three areas.
Benefits of the Accela-Cota PRO Tablet Coater
-The design of the coating chamber has been optimized for the most effective cleaning and drainage.
-We offer a range of wash-in-place options with the tablet coater.
-We engineered multiple cleaning zones into the interior to ensure wash-in-place coverage on all internal surfaces.
-We eliminated air and solution lines over the spray zone.
-We included the patented Thomas Spray Bar with its anti-bearding spray nozzles.
-We created an intuitively designed spray system offering independent control of pattern and atomizing air.
-We reduced the amount of installation space required to maximize your space.
-Options for right- or left-hand control mounting configurations were added.
-We included flush-mounted solution-delivery components for unmatched access and to aid cleanability.
All the elements of our modern coaters have been optimized for your operations. A shallow tablet bed creates fewer defects in every batch of tablets. The larger spray area delivers uniformity for the coating solution. We added more room to the perforation area to provide higher allowable airflow while the overall large plenum area offers low air velocity throughout the bed. This low air velocity creates an environment with low turbulence, high spray efficiency, and low tablet bed pressure drop.
Raising the Quality of Your Tablet Coating Process
The reason we put cleanability at the top of our list was because we saw the practical value in investing in this improvement. Thomas Engineering worked alongside multiple multinational pharmaceutical companies to find ways to improve functions like this. We gathered their feedback and focused on the features they saw as most useful. Maximizing the cleanability of your equipment saves time and boosts the overall productivity of your processes.

Why Thomas Tablet Coating Systems Are a Step Above
We use real-world, practical advice like this to develop all our new systems. These improvements led to advances like an all-rounded interior, ability to clean with the spray bar in place or removed, easy access to the interior from the front and sides, and full WIP with tankless skid and recipe control. We are always reaching for greater heights and better improvements. You can rely on Thomas Engineering to always improve and never settle with the success we’ve had in the past.
